Jeff Kerkove up next…
That’s right, we’ve got Mr. 24 himself, Jeff Kerkove, hitting the Crooked Cog Podcast. I’ll be doing an interview with him next week for Episode 4, so if you’ve any questions for the king of endurance, leave us a comment.

Why is it that the elite of the American endurance community aren’t taking any stabs at European events? Marathon should suit most of the guys who do 24’s and 100’s and a good Euro ass kicking by some of our boys is long overdue. I know you can only speculate on guys like Eatough but what are your thoughts?

Jeff - What do you think about out on the course during a 24 hour race? Do you have a mantra? Do songs lyrics pop into your head? What about thoughts about work/family/life? Do they pop into your head as well? If so, how do you rectify that, or do you go into a hybernative state (aka a “runner’s high”) and just get on with what comes naturally?
Secondly, are you doing the 24 hours in the Old Pueblo in 2007?

Guys, thanks for thew questions. Here we go….
Why is it that the elite of the American endurance community aren’t taking any stabs at European events?
I think the cost of getting to these events is the reason. A lot of effort goes into packing and traveling. Plus, with a strong enduro scene in the USA, there is no need to outside of the USA. I have raced outside the USA, but only because 95% of it was paid for by sponsors. Others who have raced over seas include Nat Ross and Eatough.
What do you think about out on the course during a 24 hour race?
Everything! Food, work, life, the next event, etc, etc, etc. Pretty much anything to keep my mind off the suffering.
Do songs lyrics pop into your head?
Not really, but I will rage my MP3 player if I need some motivation to pass time.
Are you doing the 24 hours in the Old Pueblo in 2007?
Would like to, but it’s way early in the year. Starting to race in Feb would mean that I will be cooked by the end of August. It would make for a long season. Plus training for that event while living in the snowy months of the Midwest would be mind numbing sitting on a trainer. Who knows though. Well see.
